About Calabash, NC

The beautiful town of Calabash, NC—also known as “The Seafood Capital of the World”—is a small seaside town located between Wilmington, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC. Incorporated in 1973, Calabash began as a small fishing village with a handful of seafood restaurants. Those restaurants remain in the town today and serve thousands of visitors from all over the world each year. An interesting fact about Calabash, NC, is that it's operated by a Mayor-Council form of government with a Town Administrator who work together to tend to the needs of its year-round population of 1,868 residents. If you're planning a trip to the Carolina Coast be sure to stop by Calabash and try the local fare, do some shopping, take a fishing voyage or dolphin cruise, or just relax and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the quaint town.

It takes a little effort to get to but it’s the reward is worth it–a mailbox where you can write and read anonymous secrets, letters, hopes, and dreams of beach lovers who have ventured to the Kindred Spirit Mailbox.
  • -Museum of Coastal Carolina: With interactive programs and exhibits on coastal reefs, marine life and even sharks, the whole family will have a blast!
