Known as the "Gem of the Brunswick Islands", Ocean Isle Beach is a small seaside town located along the coastal corridor between Wilmington, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC. The beach runs east to west along the Atlantic Ocean on the southern coastline of Brunswick County. It offers a public boat launch facility, fishing pier, beach paths every 500 feet and direct access to the Intracoastal Waterway. In 1959, the town was officially incorporated. Over the years, Ocean Isle has become a tourist attraction with many second homes and rental beach houses, and currently has a residential population of approximately 554, with a season population of 25,000. The American Shore and Beach Preservation Association named Ocean Isle Beach the winner of its 2008 Best Restored Beach Award. Another interesting fact about this seaside town is that it operates under a council-mayor form of government and provides its citizens with a variety of municipal services, including police and fire protection, water, sewer and sanitation service as well as an oceanfront community center.
